Kale and Dandelion Greens

Kale, Dandelion Greens and Tomatoes

On October 1, 2015 I began a new diet from Wellness Mama that is basically paleo in style but I still incorporate some dairy. I love this diet. It has cured many food allergies, made my nails stronger, my hair shinier, my skin better, my mood happier, my digestion much more normal, and I feel the best I have ever felt as an adult. The diet consists of healthy pasture raised proteins, tons of produce (mostly vegetable), and fermented foods. I have increased my intake of magnesium and have added cod liver oil. I will eat 85% organic dark chocolate or fruit. I have completely quit eating all grains, seeds and nuts, and most starches.I am no longer bloated and do not suffer from digestion problems. I was initially inspired to start this diet to improve the condition of my teeth. Has it worked? I think so. All of my dental pain has been gone for many months now and for the first time ever I am able to consume cold liquids and foods without them hurting my teeth. Overall I am extremely pleased with my diet. There are plenty of good resources regarding tooth remineralization diets and the benefits of eating paleo. I try to stick to 80/20 or 90/10 in regards to produce vs. proteins. This diet may not be for everyone. Some people seem to benefit from grains or vegetarian diets. I have been a vegetarian twice in my past. Once for a couple of years, then again for seven years. It’s very personal and everyone is unique in their needs.

  1. I am also reaping huge rewards as a result of switching my diet to a paleo template. Grains were doing terrible things to me and it was only after I removed them from my diet that I saw my skin, immunity, digestion and aches and pains improve. I really like your acceptance that different diets work for different people. We need a few more balanced minds in the paleo community at times!

    1. I’m glad to hear you had so many positive results from changing to a paleo diet. I agree a balanced mind is important – everyone has a different chemistry and it’s important for people to find what works best for themselves. Sometimes it just takes a while – it took me a long time to find that grain free is personally helpful and I imagine I will be tweaking my diet for years to come.
